Choosing to build your own home is an exciting time! And it’s okay if you’re a little unsure about where to begin with it all.
It’s our goal at Trenz Create a Home to make your build easy and pain-free. We encourage our clients to ask as many questions as possible, so they have a clear understanding of the process from day one.
To help get you started, we’ve rounded up a few of our frequently asked questions when building a kitset home:
When should I start looking for a house plan?
You can’t build a home without first securing a piece of land. Whether that means an empty plot or subdividing your current section, once you have a piece of land in your name, you can start considering next steps.
Do I need to review required site services?
We advise you to check what type of building your land is zoned for with your council. You can do this online or in person.
Before beginning construction on your new home, consider excavation, power, telephone, sewer and stormwater requirements. Knowing everything around these elements of your build will save you hitting any big roadblocks further down the process.
How do I budget for my build?
Before confirming your plan, we recommend that you meet with your bank to determine your budget. It’s this that will drive the direction of your project.
Do some research about what options would work in your price range, and learn the difference between a mortgage and building a home. There are ways you can structure this to work for you. For more guidance, read our tips for managing your budget when building.
How do I know which house plan to choose?
Sit down and make a list of your ‘must haves’ and ‘nice to haves’. These will help you outline the non-negotiables, guiding you in your decision-making process. Factor in your family size, your lifestyle and your budget.
The right house plan will present itself to you fairly organically at Trenz. We believe that everyone should have the chance to create their own home, just the way they want it. Once you’ve chosen a floor plan, our software allows you to adapt and alter the space as you see fit.
How long will the build take?
There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer here. Timescale is largely dependent on the season you choose to build in and the complexity of your chosen house plan.
At Trenz, our team of dedicated professionals are on hand from design to completion, there to work with you to help you manage time frames, and also to prepare you for those unplanned moments.
Every person and every build is different. But with the right research, understanding and support, important decisions become easy. If you would like to find out more about your options, contact your local franchise today.
